NOTE:

TRANSIT VISA TO MALAYSIA
Please be advised that with effect from 01 December 2009, the transit facility without visa up to 120 hours at five (5) entry points in Malaysia, previously given to passport holders of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka is hereby cancelled. All passport holders from the abovementioned countries must have social/short visa for a transit at any point of entry in Malaysia. Notwithstanding, nationals of the abovementioned countries who have a valid permanent resident status or have a valid long term permit of stay or have a valid work permits from other countries may be given the transit facility without visa up to 120 hours.

Effective 24 November 2009, Sri Lanka passport
holders are not eligible to obtain  Transit Pass in Malaysia and must obtain  Malaysian visa prior to travelling to Malaysia.

Alternatively, Sri Lankan passport holder who holds Australian Permanent Residency visa or who holds a valid Australian visa at time of the intended travelling date,  is eligible to obtain  Visa on Arrival at the international airport in Malaysia.

Visa on Arrival has been suspended immediately for citizens of India, Sr Lanka (except with valid Australian visa), Pakistan and Afganistan. These visitors will have to obtain a visa from the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra before they enter Malaysia.

Australian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Malaysia for a visit of up to three months provided their passports are valid for at least six months on arrival and they have a return air ticket or onward ticket to another international destination. A single entry air ticket is not accepted without a confirmed date and exit from Malaysia.

REQUIREMENT FOR APPLYING A VISA

NOTE:-

Visa will only be issued a month prior to travelling date and the office will return back all documentations which does not comply with the requirements.

1.   Visa application- IM47. Please ensure that application form is printed on a single page (front and back).           

2.    1 recent passport size photographs

3.    Your valid National Passport (at least 6 months validity at the time of the proposed visit)

4.    A copy of the valid visa page

5.    Evidence of confirmed travel itineary /air ticket (1 copy)

6.    Kindly provide your contact number on the application form.

VISA ON ARRIVAL

Visa On Arrival Requirements at all International Airport in Malaysia:-

  1. Visa on Arrival for a single entry visa of up to 14 days
  2. Fee of USD100
  3.  No open airline tickets will be accepted for VOA. Must have a confirm onward/return flight ticket for a stay of up to 14 days.
  4. Valid passport of more than  6 months at the time of proposed visit .

Note: Each entry within that time is for 14 days only with no extension.

TRANSIT PASS

This facility is extended to visitors from Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Peoples Republic of China (PRC),  Taiwan and Vietnam on transit entering Malaysia via the entry-points at;

1. Kuala Lumpur International Airport and LCCT
2. Bayan Lepas Airport,
3. Senai Airport,
4. Kota Kinabalu Airport and
5. Kucing Airport or via sea ports traveling on cruise ship.

Conditions for Visa (Transit) :-

1. Visitor must possess a valid passport with an expiry date of not less than 6 months on the date of visit

2. The visitors returnability to country of origin is assured and the holders of Certificate of Identity and that of a similar status must possess a valid ‘Re-entry
Permit’ or equivalent to it.

3. Visitor must be in possession of a confirmed ticket to a third country

4. Visitor must be able to finance his stay in Malaysia.

5. Visitor entering Malaysia by cruise ship must be a ‘through passenger’ only.

6. Visitor is required to enter and leave through the same Entry/Exit point. For example, it visitor enters through KLIA Airport, he/she must also leave through
KLIA Airport
.

7. Visitor may be issued a Transit Pass/Special Pass valid for not more than 120 hours. No extension is permitted. Visitor is allowed access out of the
airport premises or port area without requiring to surrender their passport.

STUDENT PASSES  AND WORK  PERMITS

Foreigners wishing to study in Malaysia or undertake contract employment must have the approval of the Immigration Department before they enter Malaysia.

Student Passes


Australian citizens wishing to undertake tertiary studies in Malaysia do not need an entry pass but must have a valid passport. Before arriving in Malaysia,the student should have contacted the educational institution and obtained an admission acceptance for the course the student wishes to undertake. Then, armed with this letter of acceptance, the student may arrive in Malaysia to have their stay legalized by conversion of the social visit pass into a student pass by the Immigration Department, [Different rules apply to citizens of other countries who,generally, must acquire a visa before they enter Malaysia to undertake their course of study. They may also be required to post a personal bond depostit depending upon the country of origin].

Australian students once enrolled may find that the educational institution will initiate the process of obtaining the student pass for them from the Malaysian Immigration Department.

To facilitate the student pass application, the following documents must be submitted:

  • A certified copy of your passport (excluding blank pages)
  • Three passport size photographs
  • Application form
  • Application fee of RM60.00, payable to the educational institution.


Employment Pass - Work Permit

Autralians wishing to work in Malaysia must have an employment pass. An employer will apply on behalf of the potential employee to the Immigration Department for permission to employ an expatriate. Once permission is granted, the employer will inform the employee of the Department's approval. Only then can the person move to Malaysia to have his/her passport endorsed with an employment pass. The right to work in Malaysia is limited to a particular job with a particular employer. It is not a general right to work. Usually, employment passes are limited to several years duration. At the conclustion of the term, or if the job has been terminated beforehand, the employee must leave the country. The spouse/ partner of an employee and his/her dependents enjoy the same rights as the employee holding the employment pass and they may come and go from Malaysia during the term of employment.

Other passport holders wishing to work in Malaysia will need to check the visa requirements for their country before attempting to enter Malaysia to take up an offer of employment.

WORK AND HOLIDAY VISA PROGRAM

 Malaysia and Australia have signed Work and Holiday Arrangements to allow young citizens of their respective countries to work and holiday, effective 1 February 2009. The following information is provided for  Australian nationals aged between 18 to 30 years to participate in the program:

CONDITIONS:- 

1.   The work and holiday visa to be lodged with the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra or Consulate General of Malaysia in Perth

2.   Intend primarily to holiday in Malaysia, as the case may be for a specified period

3.   Hold tertiary qualifications, or have successfully  completed at least two (2) years of undergraduate university study

4.   Are not accompanied by children or dependents

5.   Have not previously taken part in the ‘Work and Holiday’ program

6.   Have a valid Australian passport (valid for 6 months and more)

7.   Have a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase the ticket

8.   Have sufficient funds of at least AUD5000 for living expenses in Malaysia

9.   Must be in good health with valid medical certificates issued by qualified doctors in Australia

10. Do not possess any criminal record

HOW TO APPLY

1.   Fill out two (2) application forms - IM.12 Form and Form from KDN.

The application forms can be downloaded via on-line at www.imi.gov.my or www.malaysia.org.au You could also request the forms to be sent to you from Malaysia High Commission in Canberra or Consulate General in Perth. Kindly provide a covering letter requesting  the forms and enclose self addressed envelope with 55 c stamp for the forms to be mailed to you.

 

2.   Documents Required:

·    Letter of Government Support

Letter of Government support is issued by Department of Immigration and Citizenship of Australia (DIAC) ACT and Regions office in Canberra. Please refer to Australian Immigration website at www.immi.gov.au/related-government-services/australians-overseas/  to apply for the letter of Government Support. The letter of Government Support is to confirm that applicant has been selected to participate in the program

·    Complete and signed Medical form and a covering letter issued by a qualified doctor in Australia.

The covering letter from the doctor should be on the clinic’s letterhead indicating that the applicant has been examined by the doctor and that the applicant is fit to travel

·    Proof of no criminal record or Police Clearance from Australian Federal Police

·    A Copy of University certificate certified by Australian Federal Police or Justice of the Peace

·    A copy Bank statement or evidence of sufficient fund for living expenses with minimum requirement of AUD5000 certified by Australian Federal Police or Justice of the Peace

 

3.   Submit the Application forms and all the  required documentation to:

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED

  1. Complete application forms will be sent to Malaysia Immigration Department Headquarters for approval
  2. Applicants will be interviewed, when necessary in Australia, by representative of each party to determine their eligibility for the grant of the visa
  3. Applicants will be officially notified by the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra or Malaysian Consulate in Perth of their  status of  application  no longer than 3 months from of the date of application

APPROVAL    

  1. Applicant will be officially informed and advised  by the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra or Malaysian Consulate in Perth  of  the approval
  2. The visa entitles the visa holder to work and reside temporarily in Malaysia, as the case may be
  3. The visa must be utilized within 3 months from the date of issue

VISA FEE

AUD40 (subject to changes) for 12 months multiple entry visa with no extension

 

OBLIGATIONS FOR APPROVED APPLICANT

The participants in the program must comply with the respective laws, rules and regulations of Malaysia and not engage in employment that is contrary to the purpose of the program, in particular

  1. In both Malaysia and Australia, the principal purpose of the visit under the ‘Work and Holiday’ is a holiday with work being incidental to the holiday
  2. In Malaysia, Australians participants are not allowed to work :

·    In any firm or company which requires them to use their professional qualifications. They must work in a lesser capacity

·    Fields related to entertainment industry such as singing and dancing

·    Spa industry

·     Service counter (front liner)but may work in a support role

·    Voluntary activity

  1. Participants must not be employed by any one employer for more than six (6) months
  2. Participants is not permitted to engage in any studies or training for more than four (4) months of the visit
